Turquoise Water, Coral Reef and Ancient History

Watamu, on Kenya’s north coast, pairs turquoise water with coral reef and centuries of history. Watamu Marine National Park — one of Kenya’s oldest, established in 1968 — protects reefs alive with snorkeling and diving, while Local Ocean Conservation runs sea turtle rescue and nesting programs visitors can see up close. Inland, Mida Creek’s mangrove channels are best explored by kayak at sunset, and the 13th-century Swahili ruins at Gede sit quietly under the forest canopy just outside town.

What's the weather like?

When to visit Kenya

Watamu is warm year-round. The driest, sunniest months run from December to March and July to October — ideal for snorkeling, diving and time on the water. April to June brings the long rains: quieter and greener, with warm days and afternoon showers.
