Horizon-to-Horizon Plains and Granite Kopjes

Serengeti National Park, in northern Tanzania, is the Maasai Mara’s larger neighbour across the border — over 14,750 square kilometers of grassland hosting the same Great Migration story from the Tanzanian side. Its scale is what sets it apart: horizon-to-horizon plains, dramatic granite kopjes rising out of the grass, and some of the highest predator densities anywhere in Africa.

  • Great Migration, with movement year-round
  • Seronera Valley’s reliable wildlife viewing
  • Kopje rock formations and resident big cats
  • Ngorongoro Crater as a nearby add-on

When to visit Tanzania

The Serengeti’s dry season from June to October offers the best game viewing, with the Great Migration moving north toward the Mara. The short rains fall in November and December, and the long rains from March to May. January and February bring calving season on the southern plains.
