Kenya

Kenya’s Signature Wildlife Destination

The Maasai Mara is Kenya’s signature wildlife destination — vast open savannah, resident lion prides, and, for several months a year, the Great Migration’s river crossings, when wildebeest and zebra move between the Mara and Tanzania’s Serengeti in one of the largest wildlife movements on Earth. Beyond the migration, the Mara delivers year-round: elephant herds, leopards along the riverine forest, and Maasai communities who still live alongside the wildlife their name is tied to.

  • Great Migration river crossings (July–October)
  • Big Five game drives, year-round
  • Maasai village cultural visits
  • Hot air balloon safaris at dawn

When to visit Kenya

The Mara’s peak season runs from July through October, when the Great Migration herds cross from the Serengeti and the famous river crossings take place. January to March brings calving season, green plains and fewer visitors. Wildlife viewing is excellent year-round.
